I'm so pleased after last week that the respiratory consultant decided I was getting too many side effects from the AZA.
I've been stopped it one week and already I can feel the benefit of not taking it, it's just staggering how ill you can become just from the medication!

I've been told that I will have to be considered for another form of treatment when I next go to the clinic - he mentioned intravenous but not sure which it will be.
For the time being though I will just enjoy the break even though I am experiencing so 'break through' joint pains, but they started about four weeks ago and have nothing to do with the AZA.

Thanks for the support I get when I need it.

Well I have a good gp
She says that Not taking the medication is as valid a choice as taking the meds

You know that you'll need to control the ra as much as possible
But I've had enforced breaks due to side effects of meds and its been good for the body to recover a little

Gogs, I'm really sorry that you've had to stop treatment for now, even if it does make you feel better apart from the joint pain. I wonder which drug they will try you on next. It seems like many people find it tricky to find a drug that works and has acceptable side effects. i've been lucky in that respect although I had a few chops and changes at the beginning. Do keep us posted. I'm always interested in what drugs people are on because you never know when you might be the next one needing it. Also I like to keep track of what works and doesn't work for others, although i know we're all different in the way we respond to drugs. good luck xxx

Hi Naomi,

Thanks for your interest. I've been stopped AZA for about one month now and systemically feel so much better. Unfortunately
there has been an increase in pain in my finger joints and my poor feet! My foot pain drives me almost to despair.

When I last saw the chest specialist he said the rheumatologist was considering IV therapy for me and would discuss it when I saw her in
May. I'm unable to take any of the other DMARTS save those two, namely Sulphasalazine and AZA which have proved impossible for me to tolerate, and I'm not able to take TNF-blockers, so
the next things would be the biologics, and even they are limited, possibly Rituximab, but we'll see.

The prednisolone is not now proving as effective and I certainly don't want to increase the dose. I've had a letter today suggesting I should start
Bisphosphonates Sad , I'm also having further bloods tomorrow as the AZA might have caused Pernicious Anaemia - inbetween times I'm a well personRollEyes

It's strange how a person can go from no illnesses to multiple problems in a very short space of time. They're like a magnet for one anotherOhMyGod

I'm planning a walking holiday next month in the Julian Alps, I just hope I've done the right thing this year, unfortunately there's no sea and no 'prom' in the alps, so
not much of the flat stuff!
